Step 6: Wire the transformer...

Step 7: Mount the drill

For this step, you'll need your cheap drill, another drill if you have it, a shelf bracket or piece of wood, electrical tape, screws, and your post or tree.

Before you embark on this step, you should read our instructions for some advice on where to place your deer deterrent.  Chances are, you have something available on which to mount your deterrent in the right general area.  Trellis posts, fence posts, and trees all work well.  If not, your cheapest option is to cut a Red Cedar or Black Locust post, dig a hole with post-hole diggers, and bury about 18 inches of the post in the ground.

Mounting the deer deterrent.

If you splurged on a $1 shelf bracket, your work will be easy.  We're skinflints, so we made our own mounting hardware out of a piece of scrap wood.  We drilled two holes in the end of the scrap wood, and used those holes to screw the wood onto the top of our post.  Then we used electrical tape to affix the cheap drill to the other end of the scrap wood.  The goal is to mount your drill at least a few inches horizontally away from your post.

If you don't have an extra drill, continue on for one more step before heading back.
