Physical Barriers
Physical barriers are extremely effective at keeping deer out of your garden, but are also extremely costly.
Row covers and tree tubes
Beyond noise, the only deer deterrent which has actually worked for me is physical barriers. If you can afford to buy enough row covers (thin pieces of cloth) and tree tubes to cover your crops, you can be deer free.
Unfortunately, you really have to cover everything. I tried this one year, covering crops which the deer liked (sweet potatoes, strawberries.) The row covers worked for a short time, then the deer got hungry and started to eat the collard greens they'd previously been ignoring. I covered the greens and the deer moved on to the onions.
