The new motor configuration is working out to be a dependable solution.

Here's the latest video showing off the full range of sound signatures that can be obtained with a few adjustments to the primary clanging surface.

We've been eating fresh stuff from the garden every day thanks to these mechanical deer deterrents.

pet bowl used as a deer deterrent

I found this EverPet stainless steel bowl at our local Dollar General store for 3 dollars.

The first step is to drill a couple of holes in the side big enough to thread through some 12 gauge wire.

Now it's just a matter of attaching the wire so that the bowl hangs in a way that is in the path of the moving golf ball. The suspension helps to give the bowl a sort of bell effect when it's struck and the reflective nature of the metal will give an additional element of movement.

deer deterrent power source mounting tip

My new preferred method of mounting a power supply plug to a deer deterrent is to use a small stretch of plumber's strapping tape to make a bracket like above.

It will be mostly protected from the elements by being mounted on the underside of the board.

This configuration also allows for easy unplugging in the event that you have a power failure and the motor reverses direction. It's been my experience that these motors will start turning the other way depending on what point in the revolution it was powered off at. What works for me is to keep unplugging it and plugging it back up until you reach the spot where it gives the signal to switch directions.
